It's easy. Study CS or Comp. E for four years at a top 20 CS school and demonstrate a strong knowledge of algos in the interview. Bing and done- err, "I'm feeling lucky."
There is definitely a culture issue for Google which is completely the opposite of Wall Street/ New York culture. People are motivated by intellectual intrigue rather than sheer ambition. If you are into finance, you need to talk about why you think Black-Scholes is a really cool solution to a puzzle.
Kid from my school did Google summer program in Platforms Finance...non-CS --> business major...got McK and BCG offers in OCR...went back to Google with those offers and demanded Strategic Planning/Corp Dev and got it.
