How to get into Real Estate Private Equity?

Will be entering college as a freshmen.

A little background of the college and my major/minor: it’s not anything like Wharton or NYU Stern so I understand that part. However I do know that there are some alumni’s in major investment banks and some in private equity firms like Blackstone. I’m going to be majoring in Finance and am planning to minor in Economics and Real Estate (will be honest, I’m not sure how I’ll balance this with other clubs and social life so this may be overkill)

My end goal: My end goal career wise is to eventually own apartment complexes and have a decent cash flow coming in hopefully by when I enter my 40s or earlier if everything goes well.

How REPE comes into play: the reason why I want to enter REPE is because I want to learn and get to understand how deals work, the reasoning behind what makes a deal good/bad and just how this business works in general so I can eventually branch out and create a real estate portfolio of my own. Also I’m not going to ignore the fact that the compensation is also good meaning I’ll be able to save a good amount in the years leading up to my first purchase of a property.

Also based on my research, I hear that recruiting to REPE is different than PE. For PE, you’d have to get to Investment banking and then get into PE but for REPE, there’s a chance for getting recruited directly from undergraduate. Lmk what you think. Am still honestly a noob at this whole topic probably so correct me if you see any dumb stuff I wrote above. Thanks for your time.
