How to land an offer in HF from BB FIG Group?

I am about start my second year at FIG group a BB in HK. I have gradually figured out my interest and passion in hedge fund (L/S equity, activist etc). I am quite worried as FIG is more of capital markets deals rather than M&A transactions, especially in Asia. Could anyone who has a similar background let me know the necessities/skill set that requires preparation for me to land a HF offer? Thanks.

Why are you interested in activist funds? FIG placements into HF is not difficult -- a lot of the large HFs have FIG groups. There are also specialized FIG funds like Basswood and EJF.

One of my friends is joining their analyst class in 2013, I'll ask him in a few years.

I'm sure there are fundamental funds that trade financials that would love to have a GS FIG analyst join their team, however I do not know what/where they are.

FIG places well at HFs and HHs in general will get analysts interviews with all the top shops. Most will generally go L/S equity, but that's more a matter of preference than ability. The top restructuring groups (BX, LAZ, etc.) will probably have a leg up with distressed/event-driven shops, but at the end of the day, you'll be able to interview anywhere if you're smart and motivated.
