How to list not announced deals on a CV/Resume?
Hello,
I am about to finish a 6-month Investment Banking internship, and since my bank does not hire interns, I will start applying to FT positions or other internships very soon. However, first I need to update my CV, but I am not sure about how to list my deal experience, since the 3 M&A buy-side I am working on are not closed yet (although they will close successfully with a 90% probability).
Obviously, I will not disclose any names of the parties involved, but my question is if this format would be acceptable, or otherwise this is showing to much:
Advised a Swedish-retailer on the $200-250m potential acquisition of a British manufacturing company
(And then list my contribution in bullet points)
(Note this was just an example that I made up, I do not cover retail)
Do you think this format may be too describing and too easy to identify? The deals are not announced yet, and I signed an NDA, so I don´t want to get in any trouble, cause any inconvenience to my current employer, and raise any red flag to people who is going to screen my CV in the future.
Anyone who recently lateral or jumped to the buy-side, did you use a similar format?
Are these public companies? If not, what you have is totally fine. If yes then I would probably list the project name and in parentheses next to the name say (Buy-Side M&A for manufacture). No need to note the geographies unless there is a big significance.
Your example is probably too much detail — if you’re interviewing with people from the same coverage sector they can probably figure out who both parties are based on this and now you’ve given them a purchase price too (which may not ultimately be disclosed). Would go much broader… “Unannounced acquisition of EU-based consumer goods manufacturer” is probably fine
