How to make Resume stand out
What can I do over the summer at home before my junior year to make my resume more impressive when I apply for internships? I know these big firms usually want people who have strong attention to detail, communication skills, and knowledge of Excel, but what activities can one do that shows one has these qualities and would make a great intern?
I know it will be hard to stand out from all the other qualified applicants and just wanted any advice you guys may have!
More than the content of the resume, the formatting will make you stand out. Check consistency for the following:
1. Periods (or not) at the end of sentences
2. The dash used (google the difference between m dash and n dash)
3. Abbreviations for months (if you are using three letters for a month then be consistent - ex: if September is Sep then June should be Jun and not June / this by far gets easily missed by a majority of candidates)
4. Font size of title and body should not different by 2 (generally)
5. Less is more
More formatting tips - Space / tab consistency on bullets - Spacing between lines and sections (make sure they're exactly the same) - Bullet formatting (have even seen different size and type of bullets apparently on the same line) - Inconsistent wording (past/present tense mix, starting everything out with a verb and then switching that up, anything that makes for an awkward read) - Too many bullets under one job making it unpleasant to read (3-5 bullets is ok, 1 bullet is fine for a previous/unimportant job, never do 0 bullets IMO)
And just to throw this out there again: - No interests is an AUTO DING, international students I am looking at you, I know it's weird and not normal in your country but it's crucial in the USA

Folks, at the VP level, are 2-page long resumes the norm?
I would keep your resume 1 page as a VP, and generally beyond that as well. It's supposed to be a teaser, a highlight reel, not an autobiography. If you really want two pages, the second page might just be a deal list or something, per M&I's advice.
Use a “deal sheet” to supplement your resume. Resume could be one page and the deal sheet could be detailed.
Seems kinda obvious, but the WSO and M&I templates are outstanding...lots of people see them but most don't use them effectively enough at least at my uni...also, don't forget to mention the result of what you did
