How to make YouTube videos

Hey, anyone got advice and info on making Youtube videos?

As in, how do I keep my camera from being jerky? How do I make sure the video is stable, sound quality good, etc?

Tips are sought.

Do I need to buy a rig or can I use my cell phone somehow?

What are you trying to do? I assumed you were a kid and was about to shit on you, but then saw you're an elder, so I will patiently explain technology things to you as is the law of the land. What kind of videos are you taking? What's the objective?

It's for making videos covering PE and corporate finance topics. I get paid to consult for certain firms. i've made a number of videos before, but this question is more nuanced - as in, how do I improve the fidelity of the video products. I had been shooting with my cellphone and a small wired mic, but the quality is not great. so it's a more a question of - should I buy a camera, if so which one, should I get a better mic, and if so which one, what can I do with the rig, etc.

If it's just you sitting and talking, just get a 1080p webcam. If there's a lot of movement, a GoPro is great for high quality video with no motion blur. You shouldn't need an external mic. A decent phone should really be able to do what you need too. I take a lot of video walkthrough videos on my phone and it works fine. If they're looking for really high quality though, might be worth it to invest $300-$500 in a GoPro. You can get a chest harness for it or just a handle if you have someone shooting you. They have a ton of different mounts. Anything more professional than that is out of my league.

Look up Peter McKinnen and Graham Stephan. MKBHD has videos on how to film for YouTube as well. I’m launching my own real estate YouTube channel within the next few weeks.

I have a small video production company (photography was always a hobby and the same principles apply to video), so I’m happy to answer questions you might have. If your target audience is PE professionals, I think you should err on the side of higher production value. Phone and GoPro won’t cut it here, but honestly the process is the same for all, the startup equipment is just more expensive. What’s your budget?

Does not need to be super high fidelity, nor do I want to spend a ton. I just want it to look decent. Budget would not be high. Most of the time it's me sitting and presenting, and would want to find a way to edit so it's side-by-side against PPT slides that illustrate a given point. But sometimes to make it more interesting I might walk around Hong Kong and talk just so it's not so boring. Also will occasionally need to interview folks. I am thinking a couple lapel clip mics might help.

Re: stabilization, this is the best product on the market if you want to use your phone. I use it whenever I can: https://www.dji.com/osmo-mobile

If you’re going to use your phone, use Filmic Pro software. It’s the industry standard (several recent Hollywood movies have been filmed with Filmic + iPhone): https://www.filmicpro.com/filmic-pro/

Thanks a lot! That's pretty good for the walking-around videos. What about the sitting-and-talking videos? And what about mics?
