How to proceed further?

Hi everyone. So this is my first question on this site.

I have received an offer for undergraduation in MA(hons) economics at University of Edinburgh and will be beginning first year in September this year. I would like to add that I am an international student. I am really very interested in investment banking and I will be aiming for a FO job throughout my university. I have done my research and though I have got a basic idea, I am still quite confused.

I will be really thankful if someone can just explain to me how should I proceed from here for the next four years of my university. Like what all should I prepare for beforehand during my current vacation as (I am free at the moment ) before university or when I start school in September what all applications should I be making( as in for spring weeks or internships) or what all networking should I be doing and so on.

I know it is quite a lengthy question but I am really confused and need some direction on the path I should take ahead.Any comments or help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the offer, it's a good school so a solid place to start. The UK luckily offers 'Spring Insight' weeks which you should aim for in the 1st year of uni. They don't offer much practical knowledge but help you land SA roles with the banks you've done them with. Most BBs offer these Insight weeks so take a look at that and focus on grades and these 1st year. If possible apply to SA roles in 1st year but this will be a priority for 2nd and 3rd year. If your international status also means you have language skills besides English, apply to roles in those regions too in additional to London. Throughout remember to nail your grades (some people focus so much on jobs they let grades slip and come out with a 2:2 - very hard to get hired with that), networking both at career events and if possible on your own, contact people in a bank you're interested in and show a genuine interest (not just 'hi, I love your bank - can you help me land a job?') and if you feel your not getting enough 'Finance' knowledge form your course start learning on your own; there are countless online resources (free and not) on valuation, modelling and the basics of certain aspects of finance. This always helps. Also, join societies but try not to join ONLY finance ones - 1 should be fine and if you have the time do other things that you like and would also be an interesting conversation topic in an interview e.g. sports, certain passions and hobbies.

You may start looking around just to be prepared but there is really no pressure to do hardcore networking at this moment. You will have enough time as well as guidance and opportunity to begin once you start school in September.Though it won't hurt if you really want to begin now but you will probably have a more clear direction on how to proceed ahead once you enter uni.

Sweetheart..this is what you should do now. Party hard, livewild, learn a language, go for a short trip, flirt with guys, have summer flings and watch past episodes of Tom and Jerry and Thomas and friends just for the sake of nostalgia, pamper yourself and spend as much time as you can with your family. You are about to leave your childhood behind and so make the most of whatever remaining months you have. And since you are an international student, you will be leaving behind a lot to make your way up in a new country. Cherish these moments. And once you are refreshed, jump with enthusiasm into college life. You will have time as well as guidance for doing all the networking once you enter Edinburgh. And who knows.. perhaps one of the guys you flirted with may also help you in making connections ; )
