How to talk to my bosses about respecting my work schedule?

Quick context before I get into details:

I’m a college junior and I’m currently interning at a PE firm. The job is remote while I’m away at University and it could lead to a summer offer and eventually FT offer.

One of the problems I’ve been having has been some disrespect as to my work schedule. Since I have to balance school with work, there are certain days that I’m not available due to my schedule, especially during tougher weeks with midterms and finals. I’ve been on the job for almost two months now and I feel like I have to always remind my managers that I can’t work certain days. Sometimes I’ll work on those difficult days if I have time - I don’t know if this has been helping my case though.

It’s causing me a lot of stress and I don’t want to let my team down but I did outline these expectations throughout my interview process and with my seniors. I still get more than enough hours logged too. What should I do? Should I have a one on one conversation or would that be a mistake?

Here’s what I would do: Friday the week before you have some days you can’t work, send an email to your team saying “Hey Team, just a reminder that I will be out on X Y and Z days next week due to my school schedule and won’t be able to respond to emails”. If you have a work specific email, set your out of office reply. Then when those days come, do not even read the emails as they come in. If you happen to be busy with school on an unplanned day but are asked to do something, send a message like “Confirming receipt. I am very busy with school today and will get started on this tomorrow”. Make it declarative, don’t ask them for permission. They should get that school comes first.
