How to transition into an analyst?

I'm actually in a weird situation, and will structure the background of the story in the form of cliffs for easy reading:

-Graduated in May 2012 with Finance
-Interested in getting into commercial real estate (development, acquisitions, etc)
-Looked for analyst jobs but saw that they all required relevant RE experience
-Got hired on as a client accounting intern in a big CRE company to get foot in door of industry (think CBRE, Jones Lang Lasalle, Cushman Wakefield etc.)
-They will promote me into a client accountant with my own properties within the next couple of months.

Q. Ultimately I'd love to obtain an analyst position sometime in the future. How should I go about this? Stay in the firm as an accountant for a year then apply for analyst positions in different firms?

(I've put in my application with ULI for networking purposes, and have been reading RE books, and practicing excel modeling in the mean time)

Yeah that was my original plan, but later i found out when I got hired is that the brokerage/finance department is at the other location. I'm strictly in a building for client accounting, so all i have are accounting softwares.
