How true is the 80/20 rule?

Provide your examples of how the 80/20 has applied for you.

I'll drop one. I had roughly 10 interviews, ended up with two offers.

When I go to my classes, 80% just feels like garbage, then 20% is pretty interesting actually.

Anyone else want to share?

Yeah you're not grasping the Pareto principle at all lol... It's the concept that you get 80% of the effects of something comes from 20% of the effort / causes.

80% of your class feeling like garbage and 20% being of interest to you does not speak at all to the rule, but to your own span of interest.

If you argued that 80% of the content you've learned comes from 20% of the TYPE of class you attend then that would make more sense. I.E perhaps 80% of the effort you put in is absentmindedly listening in class and 20% of the effort you put in is attending office hours and asking for help, then the 20% effort into attending office hours may drive 80% of your success or understanding in the class.

If you take load management into consideration, I have about a 20% usage rate on the Clippers, but I'm 80% of the reason the team is a title contender.

I’m a fun guy. Obviously I love the game of basketball. I mean there’s more questions you have to ask me in order for me to tell you about myself. I'm not just gonna give you a whole spill... I mean, I don't even know where you're sitting at

Women gravitate to high status men, so in any given scenario, the guys who represent the "top 20%" (Height, income, wealth, athletes/jocks/fraternities, etc) will have more dating opportunities than the 80% of non-descript regular guys. Now apply this to settings where young people congregate-high school, college, etc you'll see it holds more often than not and these social hierarchies play a huge role when it's time to hook up.

Men conversely don't care too much about a woman's social status. We'd still (eagerly) bang a trailer park chick or McDonald's employee if she were a solid 8. Tiger Woods is a particularly good example of this. He was taking down Denny's waitresses.
