How useful is working in the Deals/PE practise for a strategy consulting firm?
I have an offer for a strategy consulting firm. It is in their PE/Deals practise. So most of my work will focus around commercial and vendor due diligence work with a small portion of my time spent on corporate strategy projects. Would this be a good place to start my consulting career? What are the downsides/upsides? It is not the traditional strategy consulting work I had in mind but the pay is good and so is the team. My main concern is exit opportunities, variety of work and travel opportunities?
Can anyone advise me on this?

PE groups within consulting firms are usually high-burn, but that brings along with it some good opportunities to learn. As for your decision, it depends on whether you have another offer. Are you comparing against other consulting gigs, or..?
I have no other offers on the table at the moment, but I still have the opportunity to recruit with other firms? Should I?
I think you answered your own question here, you have no other offers. Continue interviewing until the expiration date on your offer and make the decisions as they come. Are you really going to turn down this offer due to lack of perceived exit ops? What exactly are the exit ops of being unemployed?

Would imagine you'd have the opportunity to join a PE firm. Also with time you should be able to focus more on corporate strategy projects (through networking, performance, etc). Top MBA is plausible.
Thanks for that insight. What if you remained in that division and did little corporate strategy work? Would that effect the exit opps drastically?
Can anyone shed some light on what it is like to work for a "deals strategy team" within a consulting firm. Where do you draw the line between the "deals strategy" offering and the "corp fin" offering, Also, how much does "deals strategy" overlap with IB. Thanks!
