How would you rate this Msc Management?
How would you rate the MSc Management in ESSEC Business School(Grand Ecole), France? I like the course because of the 'apprenticeship' that lets you work for 2 years with a company alongside your Masters. The company also sponsors your tuition. I am an international student and find this attractive.
I haven't heard Essec being mentioned much on WSO. Does it have a good reputation outside of France for IBD, Consulting, Finance?
Any comments would be helpful. Thanks :)
It is a decent program. If you network smartly and make sure that you do well on your exams, you can get into banking quite easily. Do you speak french?
Oui. I have studied beginners french for 2 years in high school, but i'm quite certain i need a refresher. I think i will be able to pick it up well though. Have you seen people from Essec land the more prestigious roles? (Esp international students because almost everyone says MBB is impossible for non-French candidate)
Not sure about MBB, but bulge brackets and EBs for sure
Thanks. Also...um..... if you'd be kind enough to evaluate this as well - I am a 2011 graduate (3-year degree). Since then i've spent 1 year on Chartered Accountancy internship, 1 year fin services workex, 1 year with no work ex due to CA exams and other competitive exams that i couldn't clear. I'd join in 2015 and graduate in 2018 (the 2-year masters would become 3 years thanks to the apprenticeship). I'd be 28!!!!! Would that be a big hurdle even i have good grades?
Age isn't as big of a factor as it is in the US. There are plenty of Germans, French, Italians etc who start working with 26-28. You'd be at the upper range, though...
Yeah i would be the upper range as it pans out. That's why i'm specifically looking at Essec. I think the apprenticeship scheme allows student to form connections with employers even while studying.
That makes sense in your case, yes. I would still look at other universities, though. There are plenty of people who take jobs with companies besides studying at LSE and Bocconi for example. You just have to make sure that you are actually willing to sit down after work and study the course material so that you can pass the exams in the summer.
MBB would make sense in your case, because of the 2yr + leave nature. I am not sure which programs would be the main aim for someone going at 30-31, maybe INSEAD?
Yes, INSEAD is the one in mind at the moment. Though i won't shy away from applying to US ones if i feel i have even a slight chance.
2-year+leave nature implies? My work history? Well then i have 4years of CA internship(required for those who want to qualify as public accountants in my country-but it's not a Big 4 for me, it's with a proprietary practising accountant. We do this alongside our graduation). But this internship isn't counted as Work experience. It's alongside grad. And it's part of the Chartered Accountancy course.
Thanks for your responses Matrick. I'm really warming up to WSO and there are good people here :) SB if i'd had the credits :)
