How would you say no to this?

Hi guys:

Long story short, I'm being asked to work on an internal review project to discontinue our focus on a certain focus area (think - client segment, product strategy, etc.). The team is small and taking order from top of the house, though I don't get to interact with top of the house. There is a person who's more senior than me taking orders from the top.

At the same time, the person who was previously associated with this product area (also senior to me) has also heard about this, and is asking me to provide analysis that are pointing to a positive direction. It's billed as "continued analysis" for our business. This person is not involved in the review.

I mentioned this to the person leading the strategy review, he just tells me that it's not his problem and I should push back to the second person. He thinks these 2 things are separate.

I'm a bit worried as I think I'm getting into a difficult situation - would you guys have any tips and recommendations on things like this please?

Thank you
