HR Confusion - Please Advise

I recently emailed HR at a BB my resume and asked about open positions within specific divisions; later received a reply saying: "lets meet and discuss your background next week"

I don't know what to consider this. Is this an interview even though there was no mention of the word interview or even open positions.

Hey guys. My contact forwarded my resume to HR, who contacted me and we talked over the phone about the process. I was told to apply online as well. I followed up later and was told by HR that they will be in touch if they decide to go ahead with my application. Is that just a subtle way of saying "sorry we can't give you 1st round interview"? It's late September already, so I don't have very good feelings. Should I reach out to my contact and ask about this (how should I ask my contact exactly)? Million thanks.
