So I had an “incident” today that I am ashamed of and had something along the same lines happen before.
The gist of the story is as follows. I picked up my car at the garage and drove over to my building to pick up my dog. Right by the entrance there was a parking spot, I double-parked right by it and was trying to make up my mind if I want to park or not.
Pretty much in the next second, some old lady drives up and wants to park there. Not only that, she started flashing her lights and honking so I move forward. I move over about a car length. She keeps honking. I move another 3 feet.
She gets out of the car, walks over and tells me that I have to move forward so she can park. I tell her that there is plenty of space (there really was, she parked okay after). She tells me I should go home to my home country, even though she herself is obviously an immigrant. I flip here a bird and tell her to fuck off. She gets in the car, parks in the space and leaves.
I am pretty ashamed at how I behaved, particularly that I really lost my cool. So the question is - has this type of stuff happen to you and how do you deal with it?
You are not an asshole.
A true asshole would not move his car (not even a foot).
A true asshole would not acknowledge her presence (and ignore her). A true asshole is not "ashamed at how he behaved."
I commend you on your introspection.

I’m an asshole. The difference between you and me is that I’m often a dick on purpose and it really doesn’t bother me. I recently found out that i’m considered an asshole even when I think i’m going out of my way to be nice. Some asshole was nice enough to tell me that the other day.
I consider being an asshole a bit of being a servant to society.....you are merely teaching others the errors of their ways in a way they will remember. Think of it as tough love.
