I am an high school student in grade 11. I need some kind of banking internship.
Since everybody is in lockdown, is it possible to get some kind of online banking internship? Like an insight programme or something. The area where I live there aren't any banks willing to give me a work experience. I desperately need it for my college application. Could somebody please help me out?
Banks don't intern high schoolers. (You could still do shit like InsideSherpa). What colleges are you applying to? Perhaps you'd better do some volunteer work, colleges love that.
You might also take a couple of Coursera courses to boost your college profile, but be careful - take relevant ones and they should not be easy. Actually this helped me make my case when I was applying to the undergrad.
Also, concentrate on your GPA and SAT.
A fried of mine was able to intern at a bank this summer, but his dad is the MD of that bank so it was a special case. Unfortunately my parents are in IT so they dont have any connections.
I am planning to apply to LSE or OxBridge. I have the grades but not the experience considering some of the personal statements that I read. Most of them had already done a lot.
So, you are in the UK? It could add some colour if you've said you are from Eton/Harrow etc., or from a public school. Which A levels are you taking?
in grade 11 I would've been happy to intern at brazzers. wtf.

i suggest you learn to code in python, and then do a kaggle competition....use python to solve some problem. you can put that on your college application as both an interest and experience.
python is easy to learn....there are free youtube videos that teach it
a great thing to learn over the summer.
If I were you, my focus would be on saving money all the way through graduation. You need to get into the best school with the most money offered. Don't play into the hype of 'targets' if you aren't set up nicely for it already.
Save money to help you pay for your first couple of years to reduce student debt. Also, the thing I regret is blowing my money made in HS on useless partying and not optimizing my earnings to save more. If you can save a nice chunk of change, you can have a life altering experience that could rival an internship you're unlikely to get anyway.
Don't be afraid to go to community college/local college, smash the courses and transfer for your junior year to get a decent internship that way. It's not important to spend $$xxxx on your first two years, imo.
Considering internship recruiting starts in sophomore year / ends in early junior year, this man is not going to get an IB job saying he went to Johnny community college.
I agree in a general sense but need to be careful
Volunteering or doing some normal job right now will look a lot better than a finance internship your junior year. Everyone will assume it is a strong connection- interesting but not exactly impressive
-from a guy who did a PE internship senior year of hs currently at a semi-target
You realize that if you intern you will do absolutely nothing right?
Colleges won't know that
Ya kid, send over your resume
