I don't like getting lectured

" I don't like getting lectured "
That's what my little brother told me today.

I don't think anyone likes getting lectured, including me. I remember yelling at my father one time over the same thing. But right after, I realized for myself that, even if things aren't my fault, I should admit I could've done something better. (read proactive chapter in Covey's 7 habits) In the case things were my fault, then I deserve a lecture anyway.

So if the person lecturing me truly cares about me (the people that lecture me usually are), then the 10 minutes might bring up some quality advice specific to my situation. A lecture to me is a chance to ask for personal feedback. Messing up and being wrong sucks, but a little patience could make a difference.

Since that day, i've never argued with my father again.

ok done ranting....

Unlike you, I actually love lectures.

They [whether it be parents or teachers] show me what I'm doing wrong and what I can do to amend that mistake.

They're putting money into my pocket; who am I to say no?
