I feel lonely and miserable
I feel very lonely and miserable lately because if I don't reach out to people to hang out, no one reaches out to me and no one checks up on me. It feels like no one understands what it is like to work long hours either. Any suggestions on what to do?
It doesn’t sound like you’re pushing yourself enough:
- Give 110% at work
- Hit up the gym daily even just 20min on the treadmill
- Eat well
- Hydrate
I agree. Hit the gym. I was depressed as shit last month due to lockdown but I gymmed
Just realized there's tons of these posts on WSO. What gives?
But OP, there are people out there who are friendly and want to reciprocate, you just gotta make the effort to find them
It's a sign of the times. People have been home a lot, too much in their own headspace, forgetting that society is a bit of give and take, but in my experience, the more you put into it, the more you get out (e.g. joining a sports rec league -> making new friends and connections -> connecting with them and getting job offers/sharing experiences, etc.).
In a similar situation, curious to know what you think would happen if you’re “too much in your own head space”? I find it a virtue being content with solidarity as it enables time for introspection and self discovery. There’s no doubt I would not have developed as much without significant time sitting “in my own head space”. When I spend considerable time socializing, I feel “distracted” from being/having mindfulness as I’m occupied with what’s happening at the moment and don’t feel quite myself. I’m an undergrad and at this point of life, I perceive that the merits of solidarity outweigh the ones of being constantly social. It’s difficult to balance and I find myself being recluse like OP. Is this toxic?
Be happy that you have a good job to work hard and are not searching for your next meal or drink of water like many others in this world.
This is correct.
Following. But listen, I also am a new guy out of school to a big city where I don't know anyone. You aren't alone just know that but one thing that helped me is the gym and no I'm not talking about lifts. I just do cardio or running very hard to the point where I can no longer even stand and I feel euphoric afterward. There's probably some science behind it. Lifting is always recommended on here but I don't get close to that same feeling it seems to be more of a physical appearance thing unless someone can say otherwise.
Yeah and lifting is somewhat time consuming.
But, hitting the treadmill for 20min everyday will begin a journey of effort and speed. For the beginner, they will run 2mi and feel good after. But, then progressing to run 2.5mi in 20min and eventually 3mi+ in 20min gives a certain sense of satisfaction and achievement while still only spending 20min each workout if you’re really pressed for time.
I typically recommend running with songs to the beat of your cadence.
I’ve hit 17:22 on the treadmill for 3mi and it is the most euphoric feeling ever. I typically go through 35-48oz of Gatorade and take two 100mg Clif Gels Expresso before starting. And also a 325mg preworkout prior (Nitraflex).
For some reason Isaiah I thought you were a lot tanner than that.
Impressive.
