i need some advice...

hello,
im a finance student just finished my second year successfully i was supposed to do some training (at a bank) during the summer but things didnt work the way i expected (they lied to me) and i cant find another cause its too late.
so now im sitting at home with nothing to do and it upsets me cause every single one of my friends is at training and im sitting doing nothing but playing video games. i just want some good advice on wht to do with my free time... i just dont want to waste it.

i really dont have anyone to ask, what should i do in this free time? is there any helpful websites about finance (free) ? can i learn anything from home finance related using the internet or reading books? i would be very thankful if someone can suggest some nice websites and books about finance from which i can learn and improve alone. i tried registering for CFA but thats just too much i cant afford it ATM.
thanks in advance. dont know if its the right place to ask, but i really NEED an advice.

What kind of school do you go to (region, brand) and what do you want to do after you graduate (IB, consulting, other)? And what extracurricular activities do you participate in at school?

Lebanese university faculty of economics and business administration. im not gonna lie, i never took time to think about what i want to do after graduation( work) but i was sure about one thing which is leaving the country. i wanna thank you for that question, i did some research about finance jobs and their descriptions and found : Investment Banking, Commercial Banking: IF, Hedge Funds and Financial Planning very appealing to me. currently im actively participating in a committee to improve the univ. climate and physical environment.

Reason I ask is that you want to know more or less what you want to target. But, if getting out of your country is your goal, you already know what to do. Keep participating in school clubs but make it a point to apply for internships at as many firms in your location of choice as possible (I'm guessing someplace like London or NYC). Another important step you could take would be scheduling a trip overseas to make an appearance at a networking event. Ideally, you might be able to do study abroad in Spring 2018 in your city of choice or nearby - the study abroad wouldn't be the point, the point would be to maximize your exposure to recruitment companies.

Basically, I recommend maximum exposure for you. Getting an internship or job is always a numbers game: submit yourself to more roles / network with more people and you increase your likelihood of getting hired. Don't worry about not having an internship this year, as you can make up for that with extracurricular activities and the right coursework. Next summer is when it's crucial for you to have an internship. If you can manage that, even if it isn't in another country, you stand a chance after graduation to be hired. Just remember: when living in another country, exposure is key, and risk = reward.

YouTube "Paul Pignataro" he has some free videos out which you can learn from. Also BIWS has free videos up on his channel. There's also a third channel called "Corporate Finance Institute" which has free videos on YT. As you go through these videos you will find stuff in the related videos tab and just click on what might interest you. As far as books go, anything published by Wiley is your best bet for finance, they're the best IMO

Not necessarily finance related, but if you'd like to learn more about economics in your free time I'd suggest watching this guy, he's the man

Random thought... I'm sure there are decent wealth managers or family offices in your market. Why not pick up the phone and see if they would be willing to take on an unpaid intern? Explain to them your current internship fell through and you really just want some exposure to understand investment practice as it plays out in real life. Tell them you're happy to do equity research, learn underwriting, comb through P&Ls, whatever grunt work they can unload on you to make their day easier.

Thank you for the reply, i'll give it a try even though its too late now.

2nd to 3rd year internship isn't as important as your junior to senior year internship - so focus on next year

Read a lot of books and do stock simulators. Keep up with the markets with Wall Street Journal, Watching the News, and other websites like investopedia or zero hedge. Also try and apply for some sort of job, maybe caddying to build your network.

i already bought a book: thinking fast and slow, i also got CFA lvl 1 books 2015 i know they change over the years but with a little help from youtube i guess its better than nothing. I just downloaded a stock game (im not familiar with it, if you can put some references that could help me understand it better i would be grateful) and WSJ ill try to stay up to date with it and the other sites.

applying for a job now is useless, its too late or maybe my searching is not done right but i do know one thing, in my country you wont get a decent job unless you're the son of somebody that why my first priority is to leave the country somewhere where my hard work is appreciated. "caddying to build your network" im sorry English is not my first lang, what do you exactly mean?

thank you for the advice, much appreciated.
