I QUIT IE BUSINESS SHCOOL.. SHOULD I GO TO..?

Hi everybody, I'm currently a student at IE Business School. My main interest is Business but the Business administration degree at IE is too mathematical. I would like to change to something like Business management or International Business and Marketing. I looked for some options, can you tell me what do you think? If it would be more or less the same level of education? Which should I apply to? Thank you!!

  • QUEEN MARY UNIVERSITY OF LONDON Marketing and Management

  • ROYAL HOLLOWAY Management with International Business BSc

  • UNIVERSITY OF WESTMISTER LONDON business management (MARKETING) BA Honours

  • BRUNEL UNIVERSITY Business and Management (Marketing) BSc

  • GOLDSMITH BSc (Hons) Management with Marketing

  • CASS BUSINESS SCHOOL Business with Marketing

  • BIRKBECK UNIVERSITY OF LONDON business (BSC) with pathway

  • DEBROC SCHOOL OF BUSINESS BA (Hons) Business Management (Marketing)

What's your end goal - what sector do you want to work in and in which country? Judging from your course choices, marketing / brand management seem obvious but I'm unsure if you want to leave the management / strategy consulting options open as well.

In the UK, marketing is less competitive to get into than consulting, so this sector would care less about the university and course you went to. However, I believe that you should always try and get into the best institution as possible, in order to leave as many options open going forward. So with that being said, I honestly think that the only university on par with IE (Business School) from your list is Cass. Queen Mary and Royal Holloway are decent but I highly doubt they are as respected as IE. Any London recruiter who knows both would realise that IE (and ESADE) are Spain's top-tier, whereas QM and RHUL are London's third-tier. However, there will of course be some UK-based recruiters who have never heard of IE so if London is your location of choice then QM / RHUL could still position you better.

I would not recommend Birkbeck, Brunel, Westminster, Goldsmiths or DeBroc. They might be good for marketing (I wouldn't know), but as a Londoner I can tell you that in general, these are mediocre brands at best (in the case of Goldsmiths, Birkbeck, Brunel) or unknown (DeBroc).

Take this with a pinch of salt - but I'd apply to Management courses at better ranked universities (LSE, UCL, KCL, Cass- you seem to like London) that have marketing optional modules, as opposed to doing a straight marketing course. Though to be fair, you already seem to be doing this. If you are happy to go outside of London then Warwick's Management course is well-respected as is Bath's BBA programme. Nottingham, Bristol, Durham and Manchester fare better in finance but are still decent options too.

Thank you very much for your comment, it is really helpful. I was considering not to apply to CASS because I've seen really bad reviews about City University. Now I will retake it into consideration. The sector I want to work in is not finance or accounting. I would rather consider working in Export Sales, Marketing, design, human resources or maybe business strategy, if I'll ever become a CEO. Universities like LSE, UCL, KCL are out of my league as I graduated with 85/100 and they require 93/100. I will also try to apply to Bocconi but, seen my level of mathematics, I don't know if I will pass. For curiosity, where did you study?
