I received a caution in the UK (criminal record)

...for “pursuing a course of conduct that amounted to harassment”. I had an awfully bad break up with my then girlfriend and I called her by phone too many times to amend our situation, which was uncanny and I realized later. Note, that cautions in the UK are given for petty crimes like writing graffiti and are NOT convictions. I got this caution while I was working in i-banking, and I think the stress of the job then really made me overreact. Caution will be eligible to be wiped off fully from my UK record (though not my UK police certificate) next May.

I’ve been out of the industry for a few years and am looking to pivot into High finance in the US. Should I be disclosing this caution? I am quite worried. I have a MBA from top bschool some good experience to back myself. Let myself down with this...

This would all depend on whether these cautions are something that can get picked up when a company does a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check on you.

I'm in the U.S., and not super-familiar with DBS checks beyond knowing that there's a filtering system that may or may not exclude your particular sort of caution but hopefully some of our U.K. monkeys will see your post and offer some insight.

Good luck to you.

In the US you normally need to disclose felonies (can go to jail for a year or more) and finance related misdemeanors (potential jail time of less than a year) to regulators. Violations (not normally jail time) do not need to be disclosed. Employers can ask about non-finance related misdemeanors. "Criminal history," in most states, but violations aren't considered crimes. (pleaing something down to a violation in exchange for a financial penalty is often a good strategy, don't ask me how I know) To me this sounds similar to a violation, but if you want a solid answer you could always hire a lawyer.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

I’m a fun guy. Obviously I love the game of basketball. I mean there’s more questions you have to ask me in order for me to tell you about myself. I'm not just gonna give you a whole spill... I mean, I don't even know where you're sitting at
