I want to work in an HF. I am a bit confused and need advice.
Good afternoon!
My name is Victor and I am 21 years old. A pleasure to meet you and meet you :)
I would like to work in a quant future in an HF and I would like your advice to achieve it.
I am a Mathematics student at a non-target university in Spain and my grades vary a bit (in some subjects I have 7/10 points and in others I have honors)
I've been reading news, value investing books, HF books and right now algorithmic trading since I was 17 years old.
After years I am starting in trading since I have a little money that I can afford to spend to practice.
I would like you to advise me a little on what to do to be able to reach my goal after finishing university, since I have seen opinions of all kinds.
Advice? Experiences? It would help me a lot, really
Step 1: your only focus should be on grades. You need to be in the top quartile of GPA to even be considered (exception is if you go to a target school, but even then the same stands).
Step 2: get a masters or PhD in something quantitative like Comp-Sci or Financial Engineering. Or go into IB/ER/AM in a well-regarded team.
Really cannot emphasize enough how much grades matter. You need to get that up to even be considered for an elite masters or FO finance job. Sadly nobody gives an F about excuses so work as hard as you can.
