I work in GS Tech, how do i move to trading or close to it?
Hi all, I work in GS in tech, not interacting with traders, started last summer. I don't see my career in this team long term as I believe i need something more interesting, challenging and better paid.
Ideally I would love to move to trading. But it seems almost impossible to transfer internally from back office to trading without any skills. It also seems that nobody really needs me in other firms (not banks) as i still don't have any relevant experience or knowledge. It seems like it makes more sense to go to front office tech or strat/quant dev position and learn, and try to transfer later.
My questions basically are:
1. Does it make sense to try to move to trading from tech taking into account its extremely competitive and kind of dying (everything being automated) or its better to become some king of FO tech guy or quant? Which tech guys make money in FO?
-
Does it make sense to start applying outside to prop trading firms or small BBs for grad trading roles? Could GS name help in that?
-
Does it make sense to complete this program - Oxford Algorithmic Trading program (link not allowed, google it) It is cheap distant 8 week program, can it help somehow with my potential transition?
Any advices about how to better build my career appreciated.
