IB Analyst Investing in Public Markets
Hi all,
I have an SA lined up this summer and hoping to work in IB for FT next year. I have a capital that is worth investing ie more than 10k but that ins't massive as you'd expect. I'd like to set up something for at least a few years - ie not changing strategy soon.
I was wondering what are the regulations/how you can invest/trade whilst in IB. SPECIFICALLY for the UK for IBD/M&A/Coverage teams.
I don't want to invest in ETFs as markets are quite high at the moment, I'd rather wait for a severe market correction before buying in.
I am looking at having my own ISA which is attractive, I have pitched investments to family members and successfully made money. I think I can learn a lot by doing this as well as making a bit of money.
I could invest in mutual funds but returns tend to be lower than the returns I achieved with family money.
Is there some attractive fiscal benefits of some strategy in addition less hassle due for active management due to IB. I know the ISA is tax free for capital below £20k - most of my returns would therefore be tax free. But am I missing something else? I don't want to get into some super complex legal structures to optimise taxes through Jersey or something, but if there is something simple that optimises my taxes I'd take it.
Thanks!
Hey Pan European Monkey, I'm here to break the silence...any of these links help you?:
You're welcome.

You generally won't be able to trade for your own account while working at an investment bank. It is possible, but will be too cumbersome for you to really take advantage of any edge. Plus, managing money while having another full-time job is not advisable. Not 100% sure if the regulations are the same in Europe, but they're probably similar.
You can just trade any stock that is not on your firm's restricted list.... Open Fidelity. Trade stock.
