IB Analyst Program Questions About Insurance and Vacation

Hey guys,

I'll be starting at a top BB pretty soon, and I was wondering if you guys could answer two quick questions.

1. Is health insurance provided? I'm starting to get sick, and being out of university has been a hassle since I don't have access to our health services anymore.

2. I know we get about a month of vacation time, but will I really get to take that entire month? I know I will never be able to take all of my vacation time together, but do people actually get to take advantage of their allotted time? Also, what's the most you can probably take off at one time?

Curious to the vacation time (and I don't want answers from IB kids who over-exaggerate/have no life) - how much vacation can you actually take during a year? Obviously, taking more than 1 week in a row is very unrealistic. However, is it realistic to take one week over X-mas and then 5 scattered 3 day weekends over the year? Is taking a random Friday every 2 months completely impossible?

I'm an incoming SA so you can discount this how you will, but observing my close friends who are FT, it seems vacation (like most of these questions) varies widely between banks and to an even larger degree within groups at the same bank. One guy took a few days at Christmas and that's it. On the other end of the spectrum my buddy is out at 6 pm Friday and not back until Sunday afternoon every 2-3 weekends.

To get a real picture you would have to talk to contacts in the group. If you choose to, I would ask it as "when did you take vacations last year?" As opposed to "how much vacation can I actually take if you hire me?"

You can't kill the guys you trade with
