IB analyst ranking - is initial low ranking “permanent”?

Hi guys:

I’m new to the industry, and was wondering if I can seek your insights on how an initial low ranking would impact an IB analyst in the long term. I’m not really a fast learner but I work hard - so I anticipate that at the beginning, I’ll be one of the poorer performers, but I think I’ll catch up after year one, as I accumulate more experience. (I say that because I was never the fastest learner in school but I always end with good grade though accumulated hard work).

If I get a low ranking in my first year, am I doomed? Do I always get worse assignment/will be viewed as dumb and won’t have any chance to recover? How can someone who’s naturally a bit of a slow starter in everything in life mitigate this impact?

Appreciate your insights!
