IB for the experience?
Just curious about people's opinions on here: Would you consider all the negatives of IB worth it for the overall experience?
Maybe using myself as a real world example could better explain it. I'm pretty young but am near certain I want to work in finance. Not really sure where or doing what exactly but i love investing and find the idea of AM or even HF super cool. Additionally i think RE or some type of real estate investing like REITs are really cool too. Even corporate law or something legal who knows. ANyway long story short i'm excited by the wide possibilities etc. However i"m relatively sure i do not want to work in banking long term, (or even really short term since the lifestyle and just overall bitch work you seem to have to do as an analyst most of the time seems awful from people i've talked to). I know it takes a lot of effort and hours to be successful in any facet of finance, but the ~60 hr weeks of AM sound a lot more appealing than the ~90 hr ones in IB. However, I do think i could probably work in IB though out of college due to grades, school, family stuff etc. and wonder if that would still be my best bet since i don't really now what exact career path i want to follow. I've heard especially on this site that starting off in IB you learn so many invaluable skills and gain experiences you just couldn't get working almost anywhere other than in IB, and that from IB those skills can transfer well to lots of other jobs in finance. So i guess my overarching question is even if I really think i wouldn't want to work in banking, would it be worth it due to the knowledge and experience and connections you gain from working in IB, or would i be better off just trying to get hired at a PWM or Real estate broker or consultant or any other place applicable to the industries i mentioned above that hire colllege grads?
Sidenote: I know i may seem to be super undecided and underprepared but i'm only a college freshman so i have some time i'd like to think
