The timeline is consistently being pushed up more and more. If you have a contact in the bank have them push your resume to HR when the process begins. If you wait until the day before the deadline to apply, good luck.

Tough to say exactly – likely depends on specific situations.
Internal employees who are kind enough to pass forward your resume directly to HR allow for HR to have the understanding that a current employee is vouching/pushing someone forward directly, instead of them having to sift your resume from a large pile. HR/recruiter will ultimately decide if you get the interview, although depending on how senior the person is/your relationship with them, strings could be pulled (i.e. a partner saying "please give this kid an interview.")
It is always better for someone to internally recommend you either by contacting HR/forwarding your resume than to hope to have your resume picked from a pile.

From what I understand some firms have rules from HR that they won't interview candidates who don't meet the minimum requirements laid out in the job postings. Others are more flexible. No matter what, if someone high enough up is fighting for you, then you can always get an interview despite what HR may want to see from candidates.
