IB to Entrepreneurship

Hi everyone. Long-time reader, but this is my first post. My background isn't important to my question so I'll just say I'm a current undergraduate student.

This question is probably geared more towards some of the more experienced professionals on this forum, but I'm interested in everyone's opinions nonetheless: how would you characterize or describe your colleagues who left IB (or any other similar FO finance position) to start their own business or join a very young start-up, specifically those who succeeded? Did they perform well as analysts/associates/etc.? Did they enjoy their former job?

If any of you have made the jump yourself, I'd be really interested in how/when/why you did...

Thanks!
