IBD analyst at boutique - no modelling/valuation development
Hi all,
I'm an analyst at a small tech boutique in London, we mainly do ECM but also get involved with some M&A work. The problem is whenever we are on an ECM or M&A deal we are never the lead advisor or bookrunner and don't do any of the heavy lifting (i.e. no financial analysis/modelling and no valuation modelling). I enjoy my job but the truth is all my work is process orientated, whilst also focusing on relationship management I am not being exposed to any of the real skills needed to develop my career, especially if I wanted to lateral over to a larger bank or into Private Equity/Asset Management, that all say in the requirements "Strong financial modelling skills required" and I don't even have any.
Would someone please advise on what to do or suggest how I can develop these skills from essentially nothing to advanced/what is expected by a senior analyst in investment banking to help me with preparation for lateralling or moving into PE.
Thank you.
