IBD: feeling isolated from the rest of society

This applies to any finance role really.
I am joining a MSc in finance in September and looking to break into IB later.

My family don’t Know jack sh*t about what finance is nor why pursuing postgraduate education is important. Even my friends don’t get the importance of IB or consulting roles for the development of your futur career. This whole thing makes me feel isolated from most people, leading me to believe only a very few people know how the world really spins and making me feel intellectually isolated. I only hope that when I get into IB I can expand my network of knowledgeable individuals.

This sounds like that post from last week where the dude went to his high school reunion and felt isolated because others didn't give a rat's ass about his Gucci belt or international perspective or whatever.

Get a grip guys. Any billionaire will tell you his life isn't as different from the normal person's life as you think it is. But making $200k and working late means you're not of this planet? OK.

BTW, most guys these days working the "trades" (plumbing, construction etc) know a lot more about how the world spins than your average investment banker. Getting paid more too in a lot of cases.
