Ideas For Clubs/Interesting ECs I could do?
So basically, since I go to a non-target, I need to try and join or even come up with interesting ECs to put myself in a position of maybe getting a job in banking. To do so, I was thinking about creating a couple of clubs, joining a couple of clubs, and maybe doing a startup and or not-for-profit to give myself a shot. I already have an idea of what club I should join or pursue, but I need help in thinking of clubs I can start. The only things I've brainstormed so far are:
-
A Banking/Wall Street Club where we get as many people who work in banking (even if it's private or commercial banking) to come in and talk and we work on the skills necessary for becoming a banker.
-
A GMAT Club that has the philosophy of constantly building the skills necessary for the GMAT (i.e. developing analytical skills), along with doing practice problems and getting speakers to talk about MBA admissions.
But can you guys think of anything else? Also, what kind of startups do banks like to see?
I would avoid starting lots of clubs; you'll dilute it, won't be able to put as much effort in to any of them as you'd like, and it will look you're just doing it for your resume. I'd say just start a business/finance club if your school doesn't have one; speakers are one thing you can do, you could do investment analysis, mock trading games, start a student investment fund, etc. The list is pretty freaking long, depends on how creative you are, how motivated you can get everyone else, and how successful your initial efforts are.
Banks like to see start ups that make money.
Just join/start the/a investment club at your school that plays with real money. Don't go EC crazy. Having a real leadership role in one legit club at your school carries with it more weight than 3 half assed clubs you started to beef up your resume.
