If I did not have SHIT parents I would be so successful
Even if I had SHIT parents who did no harm ("first, do no harm"), I would be so successful.
INSTEAD, I had shit Asian parents who made me study to become a doctor, even though I am shit at biology and hate that subject.
So I got a shit GPA in college, even though I got a 4.0 in most all other classes.
So if I had uncaring parents, I would have majored in a subject I liked, and would have gotten a 3.8 or so.
But I had parents who actively did harm.
Plus I lived at home with my parents. I wanted to attend a better school, but they did not let me. So I had to live under their thumb, and do whatever they said.
If I went to an outside school, I could have done what I wanted.
So now I'm all fucked up, because of the low GPA. and Im stuck in a field I don't give a fuck about.
And because I'm 26, about to be 27, my life is basically messed up.
All because of my patents. I feel so sorry for myself. I got such high standardized test scores and am so smart, but all my intelligence is wasted.
I want to go to law school, but i won't be able to get into a top one b/c of my GPA. if i majored in something i liked, i would have gotten good gpa and thus go to top law school
Your trolling needs work.
Wow complaining on anonymous forum must really help you achieve your career goals!!
DO U HAVE ANY ADVICE?
Stop feeling sorry for yourself, and blaming others for your own failures. The second you start doing this and approach your life with an outlook where you hold yourself accountable for your own life you'll start seeing change.
Do you enjoy posting these self-deprecating, attention seeking posts time after time after time?
Why don't financial firms allow for carrear change? I can learn all the new things, so why they don't hire me? Aside from bio grades--all good. And top standarized test scores. so why firms don't hire me?
Aside from bio grades and grammar--all may be good.
Mean ole parents :(.
Was you mom a crackhead and did your step-dad molest you?
Doesn't sound like it. Go give your parents a hug and hang your head in shame. Then, pick yourself up and start taking control of your own future. NOW.
Why don't firms take this into consideration? Why don't all the fucking firms just throw away application?
I am such good son, treat parents with such good respect. Mom came over other day and treated her so well.
These have to be troll posts. No normal person would act like this
Likely not a troll. It seems Postgradwonderer has returned.
Blaming your parents when you're 12 is ok. Not when you're 26.
The correlation between GPA and financial success is not as great as one might think. There are many ways to demonstrate value that cannot be encapsulated by a number.
Many non-targets succeed. School attended should not be an excuse.
Feeling sorry for yourself is not productive.
I believe direction is the key here. Once a direction is established (i.e. intellectual property attorney), a path forward can be determined (LSAT, additional GPA boosting classes at local state university, MS in Biology since many firms like IP attorneys with grad degrees, etc...). And yes, lots of networking at every step.
Hey man, thanks for the advice. I have an MS in biology. Work as a lab tech. I think maybe I can get into a T10.
How much do those IP attorney get paid? Thanks again.
loser
I want to become a lawyer at Wachtell. If I can get good LSAT, then go to a T10, then transfer to HARVARD, I can work at Wachtell
A good LSAT can't make up for a shitty GPA. You can't get into a T10, maybe not even a T20. Transferring to Harvard is a nonsensical fantasy at this point. Harvard rejects people with 175 LSATs and 4.0s. You need to be realistic.
That's your problem. You are still blaming others for your own failure.
I feel so ashamed of such failure. My parents don't even friend me on Facebook. My two brothers are doctors, so is my dad. I am smarter than they are, but am not good at biology
You sound miserable. Read self-help books, explore a new religion, visit a BDSM sex dungeon, see a therapist, you should literally do anything besides wallowing in self-pity and comparing yourself to others.
Are you sure you are not "my name is goldstein" ? If you are not, go check his post and you'll find out what to do. If you are, .
Came here to post this. The tell-tale sign is not responding directly to anybody's post, as if talking right past them. It would be so goldstein to create an alt account with a different persona to keep trolling.
"My parents won't friend me on Facebook" is my favorite thing I've read on WSO in a long time. A+ 10/10
That truly is priceless.
Had a good laugh LOL
I want to believe that this was a troll post... I really do. Okay listen here JoblessJoe. You're jobless because of your fucking attitude, lack of drive, and motivation. You say you want to do all of these things but you haven't done shit to reach your goals. You think you were dealt a bad hand? Okay here's my story you fucking twat.
Both of my parents are immigrants. Never went to college I went to public school. K-12. They were nice schools but nothing special. I currently go to a non-target school in a very 'meh' city. I grew up lower middle class I'm a minority
But i still manage to score multiple internships. First internship: top 3 CRE brokerage company Second internship: top 3 CRE brokerage company Third internship: PERE firm with 500MM AUM
How did i do this? You work your ass off. Ask for unpaid internships and you start chugging energy drinks as you work through the night.
Now...... Shut.the.fuck.up. And do not complain about your parents. They fucking raised you. Start taking responsibility for your own actions. I saw that you mentioned you got dinged because lack of relevant experience. So start getting some experience under your belt. Want get more into the finance world? Getting a CFA would help.
Complaining to strangers on the internet is certainly the first step to top corporate law. I think you should include the part about your parents trolling you on Facebook in your essays.
I had the same type of parents. Something's are just out of our control and we're unlucky compared to people who have had a silver spoon since they were born.
Even a GP makes 180k/yr. Get your grades up and get in. Guess what the bottom 50% of graduating medical students are? Still doctors.
How motivated/sucessful is your family (Originally Posted: 08/06/2017)
So I just graduated and am just thinking, is their is anyone else in a similar family situation?
Growing up my parents were government workers. They were not business savvy by any means. By the time I was graduating HS my mom lost much of her mental capacity after a stroke and my dad pretty much walked out. I decided to study finance from the start. My parents did not even know what my major was until senior year of college but I have always been obsessed with investing/ entrepreneurship. As I got further into my college career I expected my cousins who were just then entering college to study business. 1 of my 10 cousins went on to study business from a school most of you probably never heard of. He is unmotivated and a poor student. I also have a brother and I have never met someone in my life that has as little ambition as he does. He plans to wash cars for the rest of his life and live at home. No uncles/aunts know anything about what being in finance means and how competitive it can be. My only wish was that my family was a little more motivated and business oriented we could feed off each others ambition/start a family business together ( I want to start a CRE firm someday.) To be honest I have always been pretty ambitious but not always a great student. I just get frustrated to see such complacent people as most of my friends come from quite the opposite. It at times make me feel a little disappointed.
note: this is not a rant
