IFC contract role

 Hello world,

A bit about myself. I am working in one of the big 4 TS team, mainly doing financial due diligence. I would love to get into a buy-side firm in the long-term, and have been looking at similar role. I understand that it's hard to move directly from TS, so I have also been interviewing with some small advisory firms and investment funds.

I have recently got an offer for a contract role as an investment analyst at IFC in a 1+1 format ( initial 1 year contract + 1 year extension). Is this a good move? I am a bit unsure given the current climate, it might be hard to get a job in 2 years.

Worked with on deals where IFC was the buy-side, mostly infra and some FIG, all emerging markets . Can't speak to DC or core offices but have decent insight based on connections there. Overall, the experience seems to be very country-specific with some overarching themes.

Good experience, analysis and experience wise not very different from traditional buy-side. Interesting investments in everything from ag, p&u to banks/insurance. Lot of bureaucracy, very checklist oriented process, somewhat slow moving and a lot of weight on qualitative considerations like ESG. The local office I dealt with had a policy of restricting investment analyst tenures to 3 years, not sure if that is a local only policy or still practiced, was a long time ago.
