ignoring follow up email
Say you spoke with someone or met up with someone, and you email them after saying thanks and asking them to connect you to other ppl and they ignore you, do you still continue to try to talk to that person? Or do you move on?
Just move on. Assume the person you were talking to was so busy that he/she forgot to respond. If you were to send a followup but they ignore it that would be quite awkward and you wouldn't exactly be able to connect with them better down the line.
Just my thoughts not sure what other people think.
I would say send them at least one follow-up email, maybe two depending on how well you think you've built up that relationship. I doubt they're just ignoring you. Most people are genuinely busy, especially in IB and you fall very low on the totem pole of priorities.
I would wait a little while longer and then send a follow-up e-mail. E-mails can slip through the cracks... follow-up e-mails happen so I wouldn't worry about how you come off.
My go-to is wait ~1 week and follow-up with a short note. If they're radio silent a second time, then move on.
Did you ask them to connect you with others while you had them on the phone? If not, make sure to do that next time. It's a lot harder ignoring someone on the phone than via email.
Right, but I doubt anyone is going to give you an email of someone over the phone. They will likely say oh yea, send me a follow up email
They can give you a name, and you can then look that person up yourself or piece together their email address. This worked for me many times when I was going through networking.
like someone said before, if you mentioned it over the phone to connect you with others and you had a positive experience, then they might just be busy. I would wait about a week and follow up with some kind of update. Maybe like "I applied, thanks for the advice" or if that's not the case then just send a friendly reminder, they will appreciate that. Reminders are common and you have to be confident to send one to a senior person.
