I'm not sure I even know what my job is...? Any advice appreciated.
In August, the CEO of a small firm reached out to me saying he had an opp available through LinkedIn - I interviewed and got the job. At this point I had zero experience in finance and hadn't even finished uni, it was literally on the back of a post about an online course I had done. There was very little about the firm online but from what I could see it was a PE firm, although they market themselves very vaguely as "an advisory firm". The firm makes tends to make investments c. $20-100mn in tech in various industries (generally 3-5 yrs from IPO), with capital from big pension funds. We provide capital to facilitate growth but also take a management role in our investments. Most of the management within the firm come from sr. management in fortune 500 firms (CEO/CFO), the junior employees are high achievers from top Indian schools but have come straight out of uni without IB or other financial experience. Despite the unorthodox backgrounds, the firm has done well - they invested early in several "unicorns" and made some massive returns through this.
My questions are as follows:
-
Should I be marketing myself as working in PE or is there another term which is more appropriate.
-
Why are they not recruiting people from IB? Thats the standard in the industry right?
