I'm smelly, sweaty all the time
I live in a humid city. Every time I go to work, there's a component of walking to work or walking to meetings. I get sweaty and smelly easily. I take two showers a day and wear shirts once then wash, and go business casual (polos) and light cotton shirts whenever possible. I rarely wear suits. Nonetheless I'm always sweaty and smelly. What can I do? I have tried various deodorants and colognes but it smells like I bathed in perfume. I read that BO is generally due more to having a certain genetic allele which some ethnicity have and others lack. I'm from Russian decent, so maybe this affects this, but I can't do anything about it. It makes me self conscious and embarassed.
Not sure about the BO, but I live in a humid city too and sweat a lot, more so than other people. I haven’t been fully diagnosed with it yet, but I have what I assume to be hyperhidrosis: it’s essentially excessive sweat that your body produces (can be heads, back, head, varies across people that have it). I would look into what can be done medically about it since it’s an anomaly. Personally I’m trying just move to a less humid environment in general.
Are you in generally good shape, as in exercising regularly and not really out of breath from your walk or commute? Maybe you need to get your lungs and body into better shape through regular exercise outside of your commute.
If you have a lot of body hair, it might be a good idea to trim it down. Sweat and other bacteria might linger in areas with lots of hair. Trimming you underarm hair can make you sweat less too. No need to shave down to the skin just trim to a shorter length. And maybe keep drinking lots of water to stay hydrated.
Thanks. Yes I'm in decent shape. I work out in the early mornings at home, then wait to cool, shower, then go to work. Maybe that has some impact. Not sure. I'm pretty hairy, so I certainly could trim. I'll try it.
one of my coworkers smell like shit all the time and the entire office knows. it's been like a year and a half. the bosses and even HR in head office also know. no one tells her. they are afraid she might sue the company for harassment if she has a medical problem or smth. but we see she doesnt brush her teeth etc as well. and she's fat.
So i can say to you sincerely: i fucking hate this shit.
People will hate you. Go to a doctor and get this fixed. use fragrances a few times a day. don't be the smelly guy or everyone will hate you, even if they dont tell you. ponyal?
So, did you have any constructive suggestions, or were you just going to more or less restate my original problem like an asshole?
I already pointed out that I know I sweat, and that's why I'm here, to proactively seek advice on the problem. And unlike your coworker, I'm not overweight and I keep good hygiene. I came here proactively for suggestions, not dickishness. "go see a doctor" No shit. Did that. Sweating a lot is not something Dr. Mario can wave a magic wand over dumbass.
Play with your diet - microbiome is everything bro. Do some reading about which foods help / hurt BO. I’d imagine eating a bunch of pineapple vs Taco Bell loaded with hot sauce will produce very different smelling people.
Have you heard/looked into ETS surgery? Could be a game changer

Shave the hair, or trim very very heavy in the hot spots armpits and genitalia
Use Fresh Balls for genitalia. Life saver for me.
Try glycopyrrolate/avert. Used to have the same problems and it basically reduced my sweating by 80%. Take it on an empty stomach in the morning and you'll be dry till evening. Only side effect is dry mouth for me personally, which beats being a sweaty mess.
Is that OTC?
I usually just purchase from pharmacy.ca, start off at lower doses around 1-1.5mg. and work your way up if it isn't working. Suggest looking into the hyperhidrosis subreddit as well. Tons of info on there
Thanks guys! Good suggestions above. That's what I was looking for. SBs all around.
There may be one other issue I just thought of. In the country where I'm located, people don't use driers. They wash laundry, then line dry. They think sun is disinfecting or something. Whatever. In any case I don't have a drier. I've noticed the clothes smell a bit mildewy after the wash, and I think that activates once I wear my clothes. So that may contribute to the smell. I'm going to look into ways to kill the mildew and bacteria in the wash as well which may help the issue. Thanks again guys!
