Important phone call tomorrow: advice neededSubscribe
I have a phone call tomorrow with my best friend's dad who is pretty high up at an MM bank.
Apart from asking the usual informative questions, do you guys think it's a good idea to straight up ask him for an internship? We aren't close enough for me to text him and say "hey man hire me lol" but our families have known each other for a long time and I'm pretty sure he has a very positive impression of me.
This is a really rough draft of the text I was gonna send him if he wasn't available for a phone call:
Hi, Mr. XXXX , I'm really interested in XXXX and it's my understanding that you've been working in the field for a long time. I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction regarding a possible summer/spring internship at XXXXX.
I've interned at XXX with XXX $AUM in the past, and would love to get a feel of what like the field looks on the sellside!
but I'm not sure how exactly I should "convert" this into a phone call, so any advice? Am I being too direct? Should I treat it as a purely informational interview and follow up with an email?
