I've been working on my annual "self-assessment review" this weekend for my current shop. I've personally been feeling a bit stagnant as an investment analyst as of late and when asked about the "growth" section of my annual review, it got me wondering... What makes a shop a good place to learn / grow? This is less for the junior analysts but more for those late 20's / early 30's types for color/insight? What helps you take the next step as a great hedgie? Thanks

More responsibility. In my experience there is no real teaching/ hand-holding in this industry once you get past the first 2-3 years. You grow by taking on more responsibility, learning new companies/ industries, etc - all things which (except for the industry, depends on what your team does) you basically have to drive yourself. A good environment is one that isn't too full of bs/busywork/coverage for you to be able to learn new companies (and industries if available). A bad one is where you are a 'go-for' analyst that just does w/e menial tasks/ checkups a PM wants on their names
