In Operations is it possible to work a 60-65 hour week? Given the incentive of overtime, and wanting to be noticed by my peers, do you think that this is a good strategy to escape the stigma of being in operations?

Philliesphan, very good comparison. Just because you're there a long time doesn't mean you're doing good work. It could just be perceived as you trying to milk OT pay even though you don't need to be there, or even worse it could be perceived as regular tasks taking you much longer than it takes other people to do. So to the first point, even though it may be a big firm, back office management especially has pressure on them to keep costs down. Since there's no revenue for them to generate, thats how they add value and do a good job.

In Operations is it possible

not everyone wants to do IB; for many people operations is a great job. if someone told you they wanted to be a nurse, you dont say "oh, nurse wont help you become a doctor" because you know some people would rather be nurses than doctors despite "prestige" differences.
