Inappropriate to follow up for another opportunity?

I interviewed roughly 4 months ago for an experienced Associate role in a great group at the BB I was employed at already.
I didn't get it but they asked me to come back in and be considered for a 1st year Assoc. role. I didn't get that either despite being a finalist both times. I do not have any transaction experience and was told this is why I lost out.

I felt like all of my interviews went well especially one with a senior person in the group who shared a somewhat similar background to me. I felt like we connected in my interview. I recently saw online that the group is hiring and I want to reach out to him and see about being considered for the role.

Is this inappropriate? I know not taking no for an answer can be admirable or really fuckin annoying. The HR contact told me she would put me up for any role I see but I know she will stonewall me if I ask to get another look in this group after going 0-2.

If you connected well with a senior manager, definitely try flushing out that relationship. Did you follow up your interview with an email/phone call? Good, then you have his contact info. Personally, I'm not much of a caller (unless I know that person prefers calls), so I'd shoot your senior interviewer a quick email. Nothing pushy, just basic and to the point. "Good afternoon, Bob! Hope all is well. I recently saw that the M&A group might have another open position and wanted to take this opportunity to express my interest. If your schedule allows, I'd be more than happy to meet with you for further discussion." Or something. Make contact and see what happens.

What's your current role?

I was doing corporate finance/valuation work in Asset Management. I was let go when the assets I cover were sold. My former MD has been very helpful getting me whatever interviews I request to come back.

Its never wrong to ask for opportunities. you have to get it, it won't drop in your lap. hit him up and inquire before its filled!
