Inception
Who has seen this movie? I saw it today and I plan on seeing it again while it is still in theaters? Never have I seen a movie that had left everyone around me interpreting it differently. I don't want to go into it on here because I do not want to spoil it for anyone, but it is a must definite must see and will really get you thinking. It is everything from a deep, action packed, psychological, philosophical thriller. haha but seriously shit was really fucking sick.
Thought it was awesome. Followed about 40% of it though, it's crazy complex. Definitely seeing it again.
I still want to know where their suits came from...anybody know how to find out these things? lol
Sit through the credits and they always say, towards the end, who provided the wardrobes.
I saw it and really liked it. Excellent movie.
Read some of the interpretations online...i didn't even realize how complex some of it was until reading some of the interpretations
loved the movie..background score was awesome too...never seen so much internet buzz and positive reviews for any other movie recently!
Easily one of the coolest stories to hit film, and it was executed just so well. Great acting, and incredible features. As others have mentioned, there's a lot to analyze in this film & story, which is refreshing compared to the crap we're usually fed. I will refrain from doing so here, b/c idiots will probably click this thread before seeing it, and will be spoiled.
Best movie I have seen in a long time. I can't remember ever thinking about a film as often or as deeply a full week after I saw it.
watch brazil on dvd. probably not as memorable. it takes > 1 viewing, but i think it's worth it (not for everyone though)
I was just impressed that a movie like that got made in the first place. Let's face it, the average American isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, so it's kinda amazing to me that a movie that complex got made by a major studio with major actors and director. Someone mentioned Brazil, and I would have bet money that if Inception was going to get made, it would have been an arthouse indy like Brazil.
I guess they hooked Joe Six Pack with all the explosions and car chases.
I wasn't going to see it again, but now you guys have me thinking I should...
Top 3 favorite movies of all time for me. It had some of the best action (the zero gravity fight scene was crazy), plus it had an incredibly thought out plot. I'm pretty sure I have it figured out and that its all a dream.
Saw it again last night. Reminded me of the Matrix and Brazil. Absolutely incredible. The theories I've discussed with buddies over the past week make it that much better. +1 on the suits and the other stuff Leo wears, everything is just bomb.
Definitely best movie (visually and written) I have seen in the last two years. Avatar looked cool, but it was just a beautiful rendition of the movie Ferngully.
The car chases and zero gravity fighting scenes definitely were in good taste and did not detract from the plot. Also, there are about 6 different ways you can interpret the movie, which I also enjoy.
This Chris Nolan guy is sort of a beast. Inception, Dark Knight, The Prestige- all of these are quality films that make you think.
i'd like to add memento. the definitive film that utilises a non-linear storyline (in terms of the use of the storytelling device, that is. it's definitely no citizen kane).
I am a huge leo fan, but I don't think this was a very good film in all honesty. Did parts of it not seem way too contrived? Of course it was "unrealistic," it's a fantasy film. But my chief complaint was how convenient most of the plot moves were, with what facility they moved from "You wanna do WHAT? That's IMPOSSIBLE" to "wow, we're doing it and it didn't seem that hard" (those who've seen it should know what I'm referring to, I don't want to ruin it for others.)
I'm not sure what was more unrealistic, Nolan's depiction of reality or the dream state. He is overrated, he's the Lebron James of film. Honestly, the story of Saito and Fischer would have been much more interesting to develop.
I definetely felt that it was a rather predictable movie, but I am the unfortunate fool that can't stop analyzing things. I went to see the movie "The Village" when it first came out and knew within the first 15 minutes or so exactly what was going to happen. My girlfriend at the time thought it was the stupidest movie she had ever seen because she was tricked in the thinking the creature was real.
Anyhow, I didn't find the movie complex at all but do see how many people might. Maybe in this case I didn't read enough into the plot/storyline. I think I will search around on the internet, find some peoples interpretations of it and then go see it again. It probably didn't help I got stuck in the very first row and basically had to look straight up the entire movie.
I thought the movie was fantastic though and have thoroughly enjoyed all of Nolan's movies. I'm not sure how the Lebron analogy is remotely relevant in this case or how BretEastonEllis feels it applies, but to each his own.
Certainly worth seeing on any level...whether its to really try and figure out what is going on, of if its just to be entertained for a couple hours.
Regards
I said Nolan is overrated and immediately said hes the Lebron James of film. Obviously, I'm saying theyre both overrated (Nolan's film-making doesn't have the subtlety of a Durant type character.) This wasn't some advanced metaphor; it was a flippant off-hand comment. I guess what I'm wondering is, are you retarded?
Calm down little lady. Did you wake up late and miss home room or something? No need to get bent out of shape just because someone is looking for some sort of clarification/justification for a comment you made.
You didn't provide any reasoning why...just your useless opinion. I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt and allow you to provide some color as to why you are bashing people that are far greater than you are and far greater then you likely ever will be.
I don't care much for Lebron, but whether he is overrated is highly subjective (again, your worthless opinion). He was the 3rd highest paid athlete last year, 2nd in points per game, 6th in assists, 9th in steals and is top 40 for field goal %, rebounds and blocks. The only this guy isn't doing is delivering babies at halftime and banging down your sister in the locker room (because she's fat).
Stop being butt-hurt and man up.
Regards
Chris Nolan gets props from people like you who confuse ambiguity and vagueness with complexity. Is that really the hallmark of a great film, the fact that you can have "intellectual" conversations about various interpretations of the movie? Or is the fact that the ending is "up in the air" evidence that Nolan doesn't know how to end his own story? Seriously, open-endedness is a pretty weak criteria for judging the merits of a film.
Nolan is an alright director but he needs to give up his weak attempts at being an auteur. Maybe he should stick to batman.
Its highly ironic that people on here say shit about it being surprising a film like this can make it in America where people are tasteless simpletons. That's precisely the reason why this film is a success! The public loves it because they are under the impression that its a brainy, challenging film. Look at how all the idiots flock to IMDB to give it a rating on par with The Godfather and ahead of the The Godfather: Part 2.
The Godfather? Are you fucking kidding me?
I saw Inception a little over a week, and walked out of it with a raging migraine and a powerful desire to vomit because of it. There were so many levels of complexity all thrown on, and so many ways to interpret everything that I don't think any part of the movie was clear cut in the slightest.
A+ for Chris Nolan, definitely going to see it again when time permits.
It was a great movie. The only way it's open to "so much interpretation" is...
spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers...you think the entire movie/final scene was a dream. spoilers

I was honestly surprised at how straightforward the film was after 10-15 minutes of discussion with some friends after leaving the theater.
Nvm, you didn't find it complex. Which is good for you. I think everything else I said holds though.
