Incoming Big 4 Accounting Intern (Transfer Pricing) - Worrying about Pigeonholing Myself in Accounting
Hi All,
I will be beginning my internship in transfer pricing this week at a big 4 in NYC. I attended an above-average state school as well as a higher level school (not quite a target school) for a year.
Although this is premature, I have some thoughts....
I am finance major and am worried that while KPMG would be a great place to start my post-graduate career, it may shut the door to working in banking or consulting, another area I'm interested in.
I've had 4 internships so far, ranging from insurance, to CNBC, to a small prop trading firm prior to this summer. I'm actively involved in the finance-oriented clubs my school offers, but am still at a big disadvantage being at my current school - KPMG was quite an accomplishment.
A few questions...
1) How difficult will it be for me to spend my senior year networking / applying to IB (looking at MM, BB aren't a realist possibility for me, I'd say.
2) Does working as a transfer pricing intern (in their economic and valuation services team, coupled with valuations) provide me with transferable skills?
3) If I do get a full-time offer, should I try to transition to a TS or valuations role?
4) Any other advice someone can give me who's done this themselves or has more experience in a move like I'm trying to make?
Thanks in advance for the consideration and advice.
