What are the arguments for and against updating your LinkedIn with something like “Incoming Investment Banking Summer Analyst at X.” I can see why many would cringe at this, but are there any reasons why anyone should actually do this?
There's nothing really to be gained besides the exposure you get from attaching yourself to the company. Forget the BS praise comments you get, from now until once the internship starts you'll probably have a person from the firm viewing your profile every couple of weeks or months even. You can use that as a way to network as there's no reason for an analyst or anyone really working full time to care enough to look at an incoming intern's LinkedIn profile
The only upside I can see is that it can be a way to find out the other incoming analysts before you meet on day one. Maybe you could even find a roommate that works with you in the months before you start. Besides egoism idk why else you would do that
