This sounds fine to me, I've seen multiple students make the jump from S&T in their sophomore summer to investment banking in their junior summer.
I made the jump the other way just fine. IB internships sophomore and junior summers to FT trading

I will never understand how it became so competitive at the Sophomore UG level. I literally sat on my arse, went to the pool, and traveled.

I went sailing and traveled a bit. I feel like an underachiever compared to the current crop of folks looking to get into IB. It definitely seems like the process gets more and more competitive with each year :)

Was sick the for half of the summer, spent the remainder getting back in shape for the upcoming college soccer season
Unpaid internship at a local search fund & served tables for cash to pay rent. The founder was very involved with the interns, helping us with interview prep and giving us a lot of responsibility that we could discuss in interviews.
