Index-Match or Vlookup
I've always used vlookup but, I've recently heard a lot of colleague say Index-Match was better - calculates faster and is widely used in the industry. However, I just read an article stating that prior to being president, everyone knew Donald Trump's preference for vlookup.
Considering his career success, should I give vlookup further consideration to incorporate in our firm's model to match potential acquisitions with comp sets?
Maybe try =FAKENEWS() or =FALSE(). If these don't work, go for =IF(YOUR'EFIRED,1,0)
Sumproduct >Index&Match>Vlookup
Just use index match. Faster yeah but you won't notice much of a difference in most models. To me the best benefit is you can look up values to the left of your lookup value...or in any direction for the matter. Vlookup limits you only to the right of the lookup value in the arrayed table.
You ever done an index match match? Will blow your mind.
It's bblloowwwwnnnnnnn
I use index match, but I just made a VBA function to make it a bit more intuitive to use.
Edit: Had a couple of requests for the code. The link to the code is below, and I've also included Index match match.

Index matches can slow down a model if you get too many. It's like a shot of bourbon. Too many and you're going to break something,
Index-Match pretty much makes Vlookup completely unnecessary, and it's more versatile. I'd recommend just practicing with it a bit and you should pick it up quickly. Very useful for general data analysis in Excel.
HAHA what is with the serious Stack overflow-like responses?
