Depends what your goals are. B-peice buying is very niche and requires strong fixed income knowledge, senior people hardly ever come from REPE/other CRE roles. Most of the work requires data analysis of property metrics and modeling out the yields for various tranches of a deal, the skill set is not applicable to REPE at all. Would not recommend unless you are set on staying in this area long term. Had a friend on the starwood PT bpeice team in Miami and he had a tough time making the jump to REPE, ended up settling for a small lending shop
Appreciate the info. Understand the fixed income piece isn't very transferrable. But wouldn't property level CF modeling/analysis be pretty helpful? For some more color-end goal is REPE and currently at BB balance sheet lender.
