Insight on consumer/retail groups in Chicago
Title says it all. Looking primarily at MM (WB/Baird/HL) banks but if BB/EBs have CR groups, would greatly appreciate some info on them as well. Comp/exits/culture info would all be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time!
Bump
HL's C&R team is the best in the MM
Blair is decent. Baird is underwhelming. Piper may have someone in Chi, but the majority are in SF or Minny.
+1 sb. Have insight on what they specialize in at the chi office? or do they offer their full coverage of sector (consumer/food/bev/retail/restaurants)?
Heavy on food and food ingredients - lots of sponsor work
PWP has a CR MD in Chicago
A caution on BB/EB C&R groups in Chicago: some of these groups are one senior banker departure away from nonexistence. In contrast, built-out groups on middle market platforms don't have a similar risk profile.
To answer your question, JPM is known to have a small C&R team in Chicago; however, I am not aware of many opportunities for junior bankers with this group, as their primary team sits in New York. A few senior bankers at Evercore, Moelis, and Greenhill may have C&R deal-making capabilities, but they've most certainly leaned on other verticals in diversified industrials as of late given C&R's poor performance in 2019 relative to other areas of the M&A market.
