Internal Strategy --> IB?

Dear All,

I'd be veeeeeeery grateful for your opinion on the following issue:

I have the possibility to join Internal Strategy with ABN AMRO. To give you some idea here is the department’s snapshot:
+ Assignments are in the areas of strategy formulation and organisational and performance improvement.
+ Assignments cover all areas of the business (retial banking, investment banking, etc.)
+ Clients are the management boards of ABN AMRO business units and business line leaders.

What I'd appreciate very much from you is the opinion on:
1) Would I gain any transferable skills in terms of IB (M&A or equity research)? - this point is of utmost importance to me.
2) Would such an experience give me any chance to move into BB IB?
3) Would such an experience be beneficial in terms of top MBA application?

My background: I have been working for 2yrs in industry (retail) finance. My mid-term objective for the future is to work in investment banking (M&A, equity research) or strategy consultancy (preferably MBBB). I plan also, in 2yrs time or so, to embark on top MBA.

I'd be very thankful for your advise. Many thanks in advance!

Well, I think you need to see past a bit of the jargon. The word strategy is very loosely thrown around, and "organizational effectiveness" could mean anything from IT work, to process re-engineering, to drawing organizational charts. I don't think the skills are any more marketable then alot of other roles. Internal strategy will get you more familiar with powerpoint then excel. Doing that type of work is best done with an external consulting firm. At least that way you can say you have client project experience. Internal "clients" are viewed with a jaded eye, and your experience is suspect.
