Internal transfer from one department to another - from intern this summer to summer analyst next summer

Hello.

I'm currently interning in PWM at a BB. I'd like to move to S&T or AM next summer. How hard will this be? I recently looked through Outlook and found that I have contact info for everyone at the firm.

My boss already said he'd support me doing this, and can reach out/back me up for this move.

My GPA is really really bad, but I've been working hard, and my current boss likes me quite a bit.

I figure I should start reaching out to Directors/MDs in the larger offices and schedule phone calls, follow up a few times, and then point blank ask for a spot on their team next summer.

Also, there are employees on the teams I'd like to be on in my building. I'm thinking I should email them and then try to meet after work/shadow them on a day I am not working.

How feasible is this?

Thanks for reading.

Hey MidlengthAlbum, I swear if I had a silver banana for every lonely thread I posted too I'd be richer than @compbanker ...

There's huge difficulty in transferring from PWM two floors below S&T in NY, but there's even more difficulty in transferring from PWM in Palm Beach (or wherever) to S&T in NY. I'm not sure how much sway your boss has, but I don't think it would be a lot. I'm assuming this is your sophomore summer? Recruiting has already finished for next summer for S&T at a few places and it will start up in July-August for the rest. I'd focus on networking and asking your boss to put in a good word with HR or something to try and get you a first round. Also your GPA, when you say really bad, everyone has different definitions. Is it a 3.4, you'll be redflagged, but you can still have opportunities. Is it a 3.1, that'll be tough. Is it sub 3.0, good luck, I'm not sure if there are boutique S&T firms (I think there are boutique AM firms), but that's your only shot.

What firms have concluded S&T SA 2020 recruiting? I could be fucked here.

Also, my boss is putting in a good word, and I have a very strong pool of connections. The only ones I'd call upon are at the MD level and above, except for the bank I am currently at, where I know very few people.

I don't really want to work in NYC. I read through your profile, it looks like you and me are both in undergrad? Where did you hear about GPA cutoffs? Please tell me you're not regurgitating WSO members and other people on the internet, and you were told that a certain level of GPA isn't saved by a senior staff members help.

Thanks.
